Pet Vaccinations Box Hill

Protecting Your Pet’s Health for Life
Just like humans, pets need protection against viral and bacterial diseases. Vaccines aid and prepare the body’s immune system to fight the invasion of certain infections

Vaccinated against preventable infectious diseases
At Elgar Road Vet, we recommend that all cats, dog and rabbits are vaccinated against preventable infectious diseases. Our committed team of Veterinarians and nurses will be able to devise an individual regime that will provide safe and effective protection for your pets and we service the Box Hill and surrounding communities of Balwyn, Blackburn, Burwood, Burwood East, Doncaster & Doncaster East. We are more than happy to welcome and vaccinate pets from further afield also.
Dog vaccines
Dog vaccines protect against serious, often fatal diseases like distemper, parvovirus, and hepatitis virus.
Give Your Dog the Best Protection
Dog vaccines protect against serious, often life-threatening diseases such as distemper, parvovirus, and hepatitis
These core diseases are covered by the C3 vaccine. Puppies typically begin their vaccination course at 6–8 weeks of age with a C3 vaccine. From 10–12 weeks onwards, we also recommend including protection against canine cough (kennel cough), which covers Bordetella and canine influenza—respiratory infections that can be quite debilitating, similar to whooping cough and the flu in people. A final puppy vaccine will be given around 14-16 weeks. Ongoing boosters are recommended annually to maintain protection throughout your dog’s life.
There is an additional infection, Leptospirosis, that we provide optional cover for, depending on your dogs level of risk.
Our veterinarians create a tailored program, balancing prevention with individual needs which we can discuss with you.
Cat Vaccinations
Cat vaccinations in Australia primarily involve the "F3" core vaccines for Feline Herpesvirus, Calicivirus and Panleukopenia.
Kittens usually have three vaccination starting at 6 to 8 weeks of age followed by two boosters. Booster vaccines are recommended annually.
Other vaccines like FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) or FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) are recommended for high-risk cats, where there is increased cat to cat exposure. Whether to include this vaccine can be guided by our veterinarians based on your cats lifestyle and other factors.

Rabbit Vaccinations
Rabbits need to be vaccinated every year, just like dogs and cats.

Filavac Vaccine
The Filavac vaccine protects against both type 1 and 2 Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) also known as Calicivirus which is a fatal disease.
Filavac is a single vaccination from 10 weeks of age that provides immunity 7 days later and lasts 12 months.
An annual booster should be given every 12 months for life and we also do a full health check at these visits.
