    High Surgical Safety Standards

We take pride in the high-quality care we provide to our patients here at Elgar Road Vetvet near Canterbury Hospital in the Canterbury area, before, during, and after their surgical procedures.

    • Pre-anaesthetic blood testing is a critical component of every surgical procedure at Elgar Road Vet. Our veterinary team carefully assesses the function of your pet's kidneys and liver, as well as important proteins, blood cells, and electrolytes levels. These tests are essential for ensuring a safe and successful anesthetic and smooth post-operative recovery.
    • IV fluids play a crucial role in maintaining your pet's blood pressure levels during anesthesia. Regardless of your pet's health and fitness, surgery can cause fluctuations in blood pressure due to anesthesia's effects. Additionally, IV fluids help to keep your pet hydrated and promote the proper functioning of their body's systems.
    • Our team takes a thorough approach to the selection of a high safety level anesthetic, ensuring that each pet's medical history and individual requirements are considered.
    • To guarantee the safety and success of your pet's surgery, we use monitoring equipment to measure their blood pressure continuously. This enables us to quickly detect any fluctuations in blood pressure and take the necessary steps to address them.
    • During surgery, we utilise specialised equipment to measure your pet's oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, and heart rate in addition to monitoring their blood pressure. This close monitoring enables us to make any necessary adjustments to their anaesthesia and treatment, ensuring a successful surgery.
    • Our team carefully monitors all aspects of your pet's surgery, including keeping detailed records of all parameters and drugs administered. This helps us to ensure that your pet is receiving the appropriate level of care and that their recovery is progressing as it should.
    • Sterility is crucial during surgery to prevent the risk of infection. We take special care to maintain strict sterility routines throughout your pet's surgery, including using specialised equipment and techniques to minimise the risk of contamination.
    • We take your pet's comfort seriously and make it our top priority during and after surgery. Our team uses different pain management techniques, including pain medication and local anesthetics, to ensure that your pet is as comfortable as possible throughout their recovery.
    • Maintaining your pet's comfort during and after surgery is important to us. We use special measures, such as heating the surgical tables and recovery cages, to help keep your pet's body temperature comfortable throughout their recovery.

At Elgar Road Vet Hospital, we recognise the difficulty of entrusting your pet to someone else's care. Our goal is to provide the best possible care for your pet during their stay in our surgery, giving you peace of mind.

    What Our Client Say

The vets and nurses here are all so incredible! We have been seen by atleast 5-6 different vets in our 3 years here and every single one of them are not only insanely knowledgeable, but so compassionate and trustworthy. They understanding how important our animals are to us and always suggest multiple options to make sure we’re happy with the actions. Their prices are standard vet prices, I never feel like I am being charged unreasonably, and everything is always explained in such great detail. They truly are so wonderful and it’s a joy bringing my cats to them.
These guys have saved my dogs life and we could never be more appreciative. All the staff are amazing and so kind. Our dog Ollie actually loves coming to the vet even with all the needles and appointments! Emma is so lovely and caring. We’re forever grateful and will always take our furry friends to Elgar Road Vet.
